Academic Research & Publishing

I consistently expand and deepen my teaching practice by attending education conferences, publishing academic papers on my teaching practice, and creating accessible opportunities for professional growth for peers in my field.

As a doctoral student at New York University’s Program in Educational Theatre, I am researching educational theatre practices with Asian American populations. I am in the early stages of my dissertation research, which will involve an arts-based case study of the impacts of participating in student-run Asian American theatre company in a university setting.

I frequently present at conferences hosted by the American Alliance for Theatre in Education (AATE), which serves drama teachers across the US; I am also a member of AATE’s Leaders of Color Institute. I have presented on topics including Asian American theatre history, collaborative problem solving, and cultivating joyful teaching practices for teachers of color at AATE conferences.

I am also committed to publishing articles about my teaching practice to contribute to a broader exchange of ideas. I served as the guest editor for an edition of the Teaching Artist Journal that focused on teaching across the lifespan and working with nontraditional student groups. I now volunteer as a peer reviewer for the Teaching Artist Journal and have published my own articles in the ArtsPraxis journal.
